[OLYMPIC SPOTLIGHT] Spain is out of the men's Olympic competition after its second straight 1-0 loss. Roger Espinoza and
Andy Najar teamed to feed fellow MLS player Jerry Bengtson for the sixth minute goal that held up for the Catrachos the
rest of the game.
"We played so well to beat Spain," said Bengtson, who beat Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea to score on Espinoza's
cross. "It's very nice that we heard the crowd supporting us and shouting 'Honduras! Honduras!"
The other hero was Jose Mendoza, who turned in a
masterful effort in goal. He also had some luck as Atletico Madrid star Adrian hit the crossbar, Iker Muniain hit the
post, and finally Rodrigo the bar with eight minutes to go.
In a tense match featuring 13 yellow cards, the Spaniards, who featured three Euro 2012
champions, surrounded referee Juan Soto Arevalo after the Venezuelan denied them a late penalty for what they thought was a foul on Atletico Madrid star
Adrian.
"All that was lacking today was the goal," said Spain coach Luis Milla. "I don't want to say too much, but we feel there should have been a
penalty."
