[W-LEAGUE] The host Ottawa Fury captured its first W-League title with a 4-3 shootout win over the Pali Blues. Ottawa trailed the Blues on a goal by former
North Carolina star Nikki Washington in the second minute, and didn't get the equalizer until the dying seconds of regulation when Melissa Busque scored on a rebound.
Ottawa goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips made two diving saves during the penalty kicks to lift the
Fury to the championship.
The Fury was playing in its fourth final, while the Blues were looking for their third championship in three tries.
"We felt that we played
ourselves into the game," Fury coach Dom Oliveri said. "I think we were very, very nervous and it showed in the first 15 minutes. The message was keep going,
keep going. We knew we could break them down if we kept playing. All credit to the players. They gave a great performance."
