[MLS GOLEADORES] Seattle took a chance on Eddie Johnson, welcoming the 28-year-old back to MLS after he had spent five unsuccessful years with
four different clubs in Europe. Johnson, who has scored seven headers, is now the Sounders' leading scorer. ... For VIDEO of Johnson's 10th goal of the season and the latest on the Golden Boot race

* Johnson struck his 10th goal -- his sixth in his last seven games -- in Seattle's 4-0 rout of defending champion Los Angeles on Sunday.
Seven of Johnson's goals this
season have been headers, including his last five.
Johnson signed with FC Dallas in 2001 at age 17. His break-out year came in 2004, when he scored 12 goals for FC Dallas -- tied for the
league lead with San Jose's Brian Ching -- and five goals in three games for the U.S. national team. He signed for Fulham after a career high 15 goals for Kansas City in 2007. But he
never hit the net for the English Premier League club. Nor could he find his scoring touch on loan stints with Cardiff City (2 goals in 32 appearances) and Preston (0 goals, 16 games) that sandwiched
a season with Greece's Aris (5 goals in 16 games.)
After an unsuccessful tryout with Mexico's Puebla, Coach Sigi Schmid brought Johnson to Seattle, where the 2006 World
Cup veteran has rediscovered the form that convinced Fulham to shell out $5 million for him in 2007.
* Chris Pontius' 10th goal of the season decided D.C. United's 1-0
triumph over Columbus. Pontius scored 13 goals in his first three MLS seasons, his most productive of which was last season when he struck seven in 25 appearances.
* The San Jose
Earthquakes, whose Chris Wondolowski (17 goals) leads the league in scoring, had a bye week.
