[BYU-PENN STATE] Carlee Payne Holmoe set up Jess Ringwood and Michelle Murphy in a two-minute span in the second half to lead No. 24 BYU to a 3-1 victory over No. 6 Penn State Saturday night before a record crowd of 4,922 fans at South Stadium.

“We really knew that we head to come out strong tonight," said BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood. "Penn State is such a great team, so much talent, and so much experience that we knew we’d really have to be at our best. Anytime you can beat a team like Penn State or a top ten ranked team, it’s big for your program.”

Ringwood put the Cougars ahead in the 14th minute when she one-timed Jaiden Thornock's beautiful ball into the middle from the right side of the field, but the Nittany Lions tied it up on the half hour when freshman speedster Mallory Weber picked up the ball at the top of the 18 and broke away from her defender and beat BYU keeper Erica Owens.

In the 54th minute, BYU went ahead for good when Holmoe crossed the ball to Ringwood, who knocked in her second goal of the game.

Less than two minutes later, Murphy scored on a header on another cross from Holmoe for her fourth goal of the season.

“I think this [win] puts us back out there,” Ringwood said. “Last year was disappointing not getting into the [NCAA] Tournament, but we’re definitely making a name for ourselves, so it’s exciting,”
