Long Islanders Brittany Anghel and Meredith Speck, former members of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s (ENYYSA) Olympic Development Program team, just finished playing with the United States Under-23 Women’s National Team in Norway. The Under-23s are just a step below the Women’s National Team that competes in the Olympics and Women’s World Cup.

The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team made its second foreign trip of the year, traveling to Norway for the Three Nations Tournament that also featured the hosts and Sweden. After a 1-1 tie against Sweden on June 16, the Americans defeated Norway 4-1 two days later to win the Three Nations Tournament.

Goalkeeper Anghel, from East Meadow, played her club ball in ENYYSA with the Albertson Gold Premier Fury 92 of the Long Island Junior Soccer League as did defender Speck, who lives a short corner kick from the ENYYSA office in Rockville Centre. On June 9, both competed in the Girls-Under-19 State Open Cup final at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview, a 5-2 overtime loss to the Syosset Sting, before jetting off to Norway. Anghel will be a junior at Syracuse University and Speck will be a sophomore at Yale this fall.
