The Smithtown Arsenal’s run at the National Championships ended on Friday with a 3-1 loss to the Dallas Texans. Though
the results were not what the team had hoped for going into the competition, their 4th place finish marks a great accomplishment for a town team playing at the highest level of competition.
“We obviously had hoped to play better out here,” said team trainer Tom Lips. “But in the end this is a great lesson for our team. The level of competition here was so high, and these teams were so good. It was good for the boys to see that level of play firsthand. Now they know what the next level looks like, and they know they have to work hard to get there.”
Among the positives was the play of Chris Hettler, who’s two goals in three games tied for second in bracket play.
Congratulations to the Arsenal for advancing to the Nationals!
