Coram’s Saam Jalayer and Bethpage’s Ernie Constantine were among five top young refs from Eastern New York recently selected to referee the best games that youth and amateur soccer have to offer.
David Brickner of Manhattan and Jelanie DeShong of Brooklyn refereed the Olympic Development Program Regional Championships in Kirkwood, Delaware while David Boswell of Cropseyville, a small town a short corner kick from Troy, and Jalayer refereed the Under-23 Amateur Finals in Chicago. Both competitions took place this past weekend.
Meanwhile, Constantine, off a wonderful performance refereeing the Boys-Under-19 State Open Cup final on June 9, will be refereeing in the Region 1 Finals from June 28 to July 3 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The applause keeps coming for Ernie as he was selected as the Referee of the Week by the U.S. Development Academy this month as well.
“We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of these five referees and wish them well in their future endeavors,” commented State Referee Administrator Howard Rubenstein.
