August 5, 2011-The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association, with 120,000 youth soccer players in leagues, including the
Long Island Junior Soccer League, from the East End of Long Island to the Canadian border, announces that a moment of silence will be observed before every match on the weekend of September 10 and 11.
“All Americans cannot forget the horrors that occurred on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania,” commented ENYYSA President Richard Christiano. “As New Yorkers, we have friends and relatives who perished that tragic day, including hundreds of people from the soccer community.”
“For the upcoming 10th anniversary of 9/11, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association announces that its thousands of games being played that weekend will all have a moment of silence to remember the innocent lives that were lost and to also acknowledge the selfless dedication of our local heroes from the FDNY, NYPD, the Port Authority Police Department plus all who worked at Ground Zero during the past decade,” Mr. Christiano stated.
