Hempstead Village’s youth soccer team EOC U-19 Wolves will take on some of the world’s most elite teams during the Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament that takes place this week.

The village soccer team, organized by the Hempstead-based Economic Opportunity Commission for players under the age of 19, is one of 172 teams selected from around the world to participate.

The tournament is being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, FL. The team held fundraisers and received a $5,000 donation from Renaissance Downtowns, the developer in charge of the village’s re-development plan, so they could attend. The competition begins Monday and will conclude Saturday.

“When we heard about the accomplishments of the EOC U-19 Wolves team, we immediately wanted to help them pursue their dreams in this prestigious tournament,” said Don Monti of Renaissance Downtowns.

The Hempstead EOC Soccer program is a member of the Long Island Junior Soccer League. The Wolves have played in the Waldbaum’s Cup Tournament, the TACA Tournament, and the New York State Cup.

“We are so proud of the team and their accomplishments,” said Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr.
