Hofstra & LIJSL Partner to Promote LI Youth Soccer [ Oct 01, 2011 ]

The Hofstra Soccer teams and the Long Island Junior Soccer League hosted a two-day soccer event at Hofstra Soccer Stadium last weekend to bolster support for Long Island soccer. The weekend started on Friday as the Hofstra Women’s Soccer team took on defending conference champion James Madison under the lights at 7:00 p.m. The Hofstra Men played on Saturday night, hosting North Carolina-Wilmington.

Both teams feature top players from Long Island including Brittany Butts (Massapequa Park), Laura Greene (Holbrook), Brooke Bendernagel (Smithtown), Danielle Murino (Bohemia), and the Breen twins Courtney and Erin (Hicksville) from the women’s side, and Stephen Barea (Levittown), Mike Annarumma (Massapequa Park), and Tyler Botte (North Babylon) from the men’s team.

LIJSL members received discounted tickets, and there were many activities for the kids including a bounce house, face painting, a Grucci fireworks show, and raffles. In addition, the LIJSL teams that brought the most people to each game would receive a private training session from the Hofstra soccer teams and coaches after the season! Over 300 people attended the women’s game on Friday, and nearly 700 watched the men’s game. The Sachem Blast brought the most people to the women’s game, and Patchogue-Medford had the most people at the men’s game. Both clubs will receive a free soccer clinic from Hofstra players and coaches.
