Jericho's Epstein Named MAAC Conference Rookie of Year [ Nov 07, 2011 ]

November 7, 2011-You knew that Amanda Epstein was bound for greatness on the soccer field after being named Most Valuable Player for the Jericho High School girls’ varsity soccer team all four years she played with the program. In the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association, Amanda was the captain of the Massapequa Storm of the Long Island Junior Soccer League. Among their many awards, the Storm won the 2008 WAGS Tournament.

Then it was off to Marist College in Poughkeepsie for the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society member this fall, where her play led the Red Foxes to a program-best 12 wins and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season championship and their first-ever MAAC playoff championship.

“In a short period, Amanda has proven to be an unpredictable attacking threat,” commented Marist head coach Kate Lyn. “Her creativity and intelligence on the ball makes it difficult for opponents to anticipate her next move. Off the ball, she always finds herself in the right place at the right time. “

Amanda was recently named the MAAC Rookie of the Year after receiving the Rookie of the Week Award a phenomenal six times during the season. The Marist forward finished fifth in the MAAC in scoring during her freshman campaign with nine goals and six assists for 24 points. She also led the MAAC in game-winning goals with seven to her credit.
