LIJSL Teams Continue Winning Ways at Region I Championships [ Jul 03, 2011 ]

After a strong showing on Day One of the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships on Friday, the Long Island contingent of 14 teams really put their stamp on this competition with nine wins on Saturday. Several teams have now put themselves in good position to compete for a chance to advance to the semi-finals with good performances on Sunday, the last day of pool play.

On the boys side, the U14 Smithtown Arsenal backed up Friday’s win with a 2-0 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday. In the U15 bracket, Massapequa Arsenal bounced backed from a 3-1 loss on day one to defeat the team from West Virginia, 4-0. The BU16 Northport-Cow Harbor Sound, and the BU13 Dix Hills Success Elite both played to draws on Saturday and stand at 1-0-1 heading into today’s games.

Six of the LIJSL’s Saturday victories came from the girls side. In the U12 age group Albertson Red 98 Fury(2-0-0) and HBC Impact (1-0-1) were both winners and are contenders for the semi-final round, which is played on Monday. The U13 Massapequa Crush moved to 2-0 on the weekend with a commanding 5-0 win over Vermont, and the U14 Farmingdale United bounced back with a 4-0 win over Delaware after a tough loss on Friday. In the U17 bracket, Albertson 93 Fury defeated Baltimore, MD, 2-0, while the Syosset Sting 92 Elite also moved to 2-0 with a 4-0 win over Maine in the U18 competition. The U15 East Meadow Sparks played to another tough draw on Saturday, a 0-0 contest against Connecticut, and the East Meadow United fell to 1-1 with a tough 1-0 loss to Virginia in the U16 bracket.
