Petro Club Weeks: North Babylon Patriot Soccer Club [ Nov 07, 2011 ]

In North Babylon, the Patriot Soccer Club has a long and storied history. Founded in 1974, it has long been one of the largest and most active clubs within the Long Island Junior Soccer League, in terms of both intramural and travel team players. Nearly 1,000 children play soccer under the club’s direction.

Known always for their strong travel program and tournament teams, North Babylon has had great success on the field and off with a long list of alumni who have not only gone on to play at the collegiate level, but have earned numerous academic awards and scholarships. Among the former Patriot players who have gone on to play in college are Rosalind Santana and Danielle Egan (North Carolina), Pam Claudio (UConn), Eric Brandt (Lehigh), Mike Carrano (St. John’s), Carol Lind and Kathleen Kennedy (George Mason), Chris Aloisi (Syracuse), and Paul Wroblewski (Notre Dame).

The club has also had its share of outstanding volunteers. Three former board members have been inducted into the LIJSL Hall of Fame; Marlene Banninger, and past club presidents Gary Galletta and Garrett Simulcik.

Recently, the club re-organized as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and still hosts the longest running indoor tournament on Long Island. The Winter 2012 event will mark the 32nd consecutive year they have played indoors at North Babylon.

We thank the Patriot Soccer Club for their longstanding history of service to the youth of their community and the game of soccer on Long Island.
