Petro Club Weeks: Plainview-Old Bethpage Soccer Club [ Apr 30, 2012 ]

Established in 1975, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Soccer Club is built on a philosophy of skill development, team building, and good sportsmanship. We saw a healthy dose of all three when we visited the POB fields this weekend.

“POBSC Philosophy - we believe in training and developing our players so that they enjoy the game of soccer while building team spirit and individual skills. Our boys & girls have done well in all groups. Our goal is to offer fun, challenging, and effective coaching while being a positive role model for all players we work with. We value the relationships we create, and we believe these relationships are the foundation for success both on and off the field."

That mission statement is displayed prominently on the club’s web site. It’s a motto they take seriously and it bears itself out in the numbers (1476 registrants) and in the experience that the players and their parents are having with the club. In the annual "Best of Long Island" issue for the Long Island Press, POBSC was voted the #2 soccer club on Long Island!

It is also evident in the wide range of programs the club offers its members. In addition to traditional travel and intramural competition, POBSC joined the NDP (Nassau Development Program) and offers small-sided games, Sweeper-Keeper, and TOPSoccer programs. They also host coaches and referee training.

We congratulate Plainview-Old Bethpage Soccer Club for their dedication to the youth of Long Island and the game of soccer, as well as their commitment to the ideals of sportsmanship.
