Remainder of Travel Season Cancelled [ Nov 02, 2012 ]

To our Coaches, Players, Parents, Administrators and Game Officials -

Thankfully, we have been able to re-open our offices and use this opportunity to reach out to you. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the tens of thousands that have been severely affected by Sandy.

Due to the impact that the storm has had on our communities, and in consideration of those families who have lost their homes, have no electric, heat, water, and the challenges created by the current gas crisis, we are canceling the remainder of our travel games this season. These are difficult times and we must focus on allowing our families to take this time to rebuild.

Although soccer is a game we love, and many of you would like to get back on the field, we cannot ask those that have been adversely impacted to play. Many club areas have been devastated and those clubs would not have fields or teams available. We must bond together and take this time to rebuild. Thank you for your understanding and compassion.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

LIJSL Board of Directors

Initial Reactions to Cancellation of Season (names removed):

From Oceanside:
Please express my personal thanks to the entire Board for taking this step.

While my family and myself are fine, having witnessed in my own community during the past few days the sense of total loss and personal devastation suffered by so many, I applaud you for making this decision.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all during this most difficult and challenging times.

From West Islip:
Good decision.

From Albertson:
Thank you Joan- you did the right thing. I hope all get through this.

From Lindenhurst:
I applaud you and the Board for making this decision.

I am sure you are going to hear a lot of flack from this, but I must congratulate LIJSL on their decision.

As a coach of a team in Lindenhurst, I believe the girls would have loved to finish the season out, but the recover process that precident over soccer.

Thanks for an intelligent decision.

From Mastic:
I would like to take a minute and say how proud we are to be a part of an organization that has looked at what we are all really dealing with as a community and took one less thing off of a parents plate !!!

From Deer Park:
I applaud and agree with this decision.

While our family and home have not been adversely affected by the storm, I think this decision is wise, thoughtful and respectful of families and priorities. Thank you.

At some point, I guess you folks will sit down and figure how to determine teams moving up and down. Many teams, like mine, only had 6 games instead of 7 with the cancelations on Sunday the eve of the storm.

More importantly, folks can now concentrate on their families and rebuilding. Good move.

From Manorville:
I applaud your decision. Thank you!

Smart and respectful decision. Wish the majority of NYC could do the same and cancel the marathon.
See you in the spring.

From Carle Place:
