The State Cup in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) begins this Saturday, September 10 and Sunday,
September 11 with Arch Capital Group Challenge Cup games in the Under-12 age group. While most age groups for the State Cup play solely in the spring, this group kicks off play in September because of the large number of Under-12 teams.
“We’re starting the State Cup in September and we wish all the teams the best of luck,” commented Barbara Rodriguez, State Cup Chairperson.
Whether it’s the 10 boys matches and 9 girls games being played this weekend in the Arch Capital Group Challenge Cup, which will include 16 LIJSL teams, or the thousands of league games, a moment of silence will be observed before every match on September 10 and 11.
“All Americans cannot forget the horrors that occurred on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania,” commented ENYYSA President Richard Christiano. “As New Yorkers, we have friends and relatives who perished that tragic day, including hundreds of people from the soccer community.”
“For the upcoming 10th anniversary of 9/11, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s thousands of games being played that weekend will all have a moment of silence to remember the innocent lives that were lost and to also acknowledge the selfless dedication of our local heroes from the FDNY, NYPD, and the Port Authority Police Department, plus all who worked at Ground Zero during the past decade,” Mr. Christiano stated.
ENYYSA would like to welcome back their State Cup sponsor, Arch Capital Group Ltd., a Bermuda public limited liability company. They write insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in Bermuda, the United States, Europe and Canada, with a focus on specialty lines.
