Dear LIJSL Members & Friends,
I am extremely proud to serve as President of our soccer league, and am even prouder of the growth the league has undergone since its inception in 1966, turning eight boys’ teams into an organization that now features over 1,600 travel teams. We continue to find new ways to improve and promote our game for the youth of Long Island.
One initiative we’ve undertaken towards that goal has been a concerted effort to improve our presence online. In a few short months, the Long Island Junior Soccer League has joined Facebook, we have a new Twitter account, and our web site now features cutting edge design and a wealth of content that can’t be found on any other youth soccer site.
The new www.lijsoccer.com will serve as a more robust destination site, not only for LIJSL business, but for the sport of soccer as a whole, featuring national and international news feeds, extensive soccer-related links , and interactive fan items like blogs, polls, and contests. The site will also include a video archive of soccer skills for coaches and players, player diaries, Ask the Ref segments, up to date scores and standings, and photo galleries, as well as other features touting the many successful programs sponsored by LIJSL.
We are excited about the new site and hope that you enjoy its many new features. Our new Director of Web Services, Ken Ilchuk, brings a wealth of experience from the NFL and the New York Jets as a writer, editor, and web manager, and is eager to make lijsoccer.com a site we can all be proud of. If you have any questions or would like more information about the site, you can contact him at kenlijsl@ix.netcom.com.
Thank you again for visiting lijsoccer.com. Please be sure to check in often, as stories will change daily – and don’t forget to visit us on Facebook!
Yours in Soccer,
Addie Mattei-Iaia
