Petro Club Weeks: Copiague Soccer Club
May 19, 2014 | by Ken Ilchuk
The Copiague Soccer Club operates as part of the Copiague Youth Leagues (CYL), the umbrella organization for all youth sports in the community. Offering divisions for Grasshoppers, Pee Wee’s, Major and Minor divisions, Seniors, and Travel teams, the club keeps kids active from ages five through 19.
Though they maintain several fields throughout the community, their main fields are located in Tanner Park, right on the shores of the Great South Bay, a great place for a game on just about any day. Located in Suffolk County, on Long Island’s south shore, Copiague was one of many communities hit hard by Hurricanes Irene and Sandy. People continue to work towards recovery, and through it all, the CYL and the Copiague Soccer Club have worked hard to keep the games alive for the kids of the community, and keeping their youth active.
Initiated in the 1980’s, the Copiague Soccer Club joined the CYL in providing programs that keep nearly 1200 kids active throughout the year.
