A Thank You.....From Smithtown to the LIJSL
June 18, 2014
Dear Mrs. Mattei-laia,
On behalf of the players and families of the Smithtown Spirit, I thank you for your generous support of our team as we head to the Regionals representing the LIJSL. I also want to thank you for your decades of dedication to the children of Long Island. Having coached with your son Mike, I know of your family’s commitment to our sons and daughters. LIJSL is one of the wonderful organizations on Long Island that serves our children. Over my years of service to the Smithtown Kickers SC, my children have learned the value of hard work, team spirit, dedication, and competition. Regardless of our on-field success, our players have developed into fine young women, many of whom play college soccer. Your organization has fostered this possibility for thousands across our Island. You should be proud. I know I am.
The Smithtown Spirit is composed of a great group of women. Their hard work and commitment to each other is remarkable. As a U17 team, after winning the NERP championship in devastating heat with an injury shortened roster, the Spirit went to the State Finals and lost a grueling match. The physical toll of the game was evident on our 11 healthy players, and they refused to quit. They worked themselves into pure exhaustion and in defeat, they won the hearts of many. I was treated to one of the greatest events of my life—sporting or otherwise.
For my family…soccer has been life. And so I want to thank you again, both personally and as a representative of the Smithtown Kickers.
We will use your financial contribution to pay for team lodging expenses during regionals, 6/26-7/1.
