Petro Club Weeks: Levittown Soccer Club
October 06, 2014 | by Ken Ilchuk
The Levittown Soccer Club has been a longtime member in good standing with the Long Island Junior Soccer League, and has continued to offer young players and their parents skill development programs in a fun environment that has led to a great deal of success both on and off the field.
On field development begins as early as three years of age in Levittown. The LSC Snoopy Program is a recreation program that introduces the game to the kids and runs in conjunction with the normal fall and spring soccer seasons. For players aged five through 13, the club offers their Intramural and Interleague program. This is also considered a recreation program where the kids are taught more about the game, and prepares them for the travel program that starts at age 9, though participants can choose to stay with this program until age 13. Next in the progression is the Developmental Program, an enrichment program designed to provide players in the LSC Intramural Program with additional training and soccer experiences. The primary purpose of the Developmental Program is to assist each player on improving and advancing their soccer skill level. The emphasis is NOT on winning, but on developing well rounded players that continue to grow with the game of soccer. The program is an excellent way to prepare players to try out for our Travel Soccer Program.
That course of preparation has proven successful as Levittown’s Travel Program boasted six division winners during the Fall 2013 season. The U9 Lady Galaxy, the U16 Breakers, U12 Gunners, U14 Rage, U15 Nitro, and U17 Impact all took home championship medals a year ago. The Gunners also captured the 2014 State Cup championship. The club’s philosophy of development and improvement continues at this level through their association with the NY Red Bulls. Working with Red Bulls training staff, LSC LSC offers general skills clinics, foot skills clinics, striker clinics, and fall coaching clinics to help coaches and players continue to improve their game.
Off the field, the club continues to grow as well. This spring, Levittown Soccer Club announced the creation of the annual Luigi Pelini Memorial Scholarship Program to reward their outstanding travel soccer players. The program was created in honor of Luigi Pelini, who founded the Levittown Soccer Club in 1976. Scholarship awards are considered for graduating high school seniors who meet certain eligibility requirements. The intention of the award is to recognize those individuals who, through their participation in the Levittown Soccer Club, love of youth soccer, and dedication to community service, have demonstrated their ability and readiness to contribute and succeed in our society.
Another sign of the success of the club is found in the numbers of players who go on to find success on and off the field in college and beyond. The LSC has sent nearly 50 players on to the college ranks in the last four years!
The Long Island Junior Soccer League commends the Levittown Soccer Club for their dedication to their community and their players and families, and for all they do to continue to promote the great game of soccer here on Long Island.
