#LIJSLPink: Franklin Square Goes Pink for the Maurer Foundation
October 16, 2014 | by Ken Ilchuk
Sunday, October 5th was the start of something special in Franklin Square. That’s when the Franklin Square Raiders Soccer Club stepped up to fight breast cancer.
Like many organizations this time of year, the club has been encouraging players to wear pink soccer socks during intramural games in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For Franklin Square players, and even those who may be visiting from other towns, the socks are available for purchase at the concession table at the fields, and at Sportloft, 1001 Jericho Turnpike, in New Hyde Park. All proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research charities.
But the Raiders have taken their fight against breast cancer even further through their association with the Maurer Foundation. The club is selling pink and white cookies from the foundation at their concession stand. The Maurer foundation sponsors a variety of educational programs that focus on breast cancer prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, early detection, and risk reduction. Please visit www.maurerfoundation.org for more information. The cookies and socks will be available throughout the month of October. Cookies are $2.00 each and all proceeds go directly to the Maurer Foundation.
