Terryville Juventus Takes the "15 Can Challenge"
December 02, 2014 | by Ken Ilchuk
The Terryville Juventus is a boys U11 team. But after their efforts this fall, it seems their number should be much higher than 11….say maybe, 15.
Throughout the month of November, team members took part in the “15 Can Challenge”. Each boy on the team was challenged to collect at least 15 cans or boxes of non-perishable food items, which they would deliver to the local food pantry in Port Jefferson. Every member of the team completed the challenge, and on November 23rd, the boys and their families delivered their donations to the pantry.
The boys got a tour of the pantry and saw firsthand how their donations affected their own community. It turns out their total contribution will help feed 114 families during this holiday season.
“We are so proud of the efforts of the Terryville Juventus boys, and so grateful to their coaches and parents who guided them through this challenge,” said LIJSL President Addie Mattei-Iaia. “This type of selflessness and concern for others is exactly what the founders of this league envisioned when they talked about building character through soccer. We thank the Juventus for showing us all that how you carry yourself off the field is just as important as how you perform on it.”
