The Stony Brook Soccer Club is joining forces with other youth sports organizations in their community to offer meetings about improving youth sports by creating a player-first environment. The meetings will be held this Thursday night, March 5th, at Stony Brook University’s Wang Center at 100 Nicolls Road in Stony Brook.
The 6:00 pm meeting is for coaches, and the discussion will be Beyond X’s and O’s: Developing a Positive Coaching Legacy. At 7:30 pm, there is a program for parents on Changing the Game: Developing High-Performers in a “Player-First” Environment.
The keynote speaker is John O’Sullivan, author of the national best-selling book Changing the Game: The Parents’ Guide to Raising Happy, High-Performing Athletes and Giving Youth Sports Back to Our Kids. John is a contributing writer for the Huffington Post, Soccer America and NSCAA Soccer Journal who left his position with MLS’ Portland Timbers in 2013 to concentrate full-time on improving youth sports.
John will be discussing the ways we can help young athletes perform to their potential while at the same time giving children ownership and enjoyment of their experience in youth sports. Stay after the meetings for a panel discussion about ongoing issues in youth sports featuring John, coaches from Stony Brook University, and Dr. James Paci from the Stony Brook Orthopaedics Division of Sports Medicine.
Stony Brook Soccer’s co-hosts for the event are Three Village Lax, Three Village Football, Three Village Basketball, and the Three Village Baseball and Softball League. Admission is free. For more information, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 516-850-3175.
