LIJSL Player Development Program, ENY Olympic Development Program Strengthen Relationship
May 23, 2018
Long Island Junior Soccer League players have always had a pathway to progress to higher levels, including the Eastern New York Olympic Development Program (ODP). That link has now become even stronger between ODP and the LIJSL’s Player Development Program (PDP).
PDP, which previously was named the Select Program, offers a way for players to be recommended into the Olympic program and now both organizations will share joint age group training sessions.
“I think that giving players the opportunity to be seen by coaches and play with players in a more competitive environment is very valuable for their development,” LIJSL Technical Director Ronan Wiseman said. “The relationship between LIJSL PDP and ENY ODP will give those players that opportunity that may provide them with a pathway to move on to the next level of competition.”
The programs will also allow players to compete in a game environment with scrimmages based on player availability.
The growing partnership is expected to increase the player pool for identification and help coaches better identify players that have the ability to move onto the next level on state, regional, and national teams.
“In the past Long Island Select and ODP worked together, which gave all of the players more opportunity,” ODP Program Director Jim Volpe said. “Ronan and I are committed to bringing back that tradition to give more players a pathway to success.
PDP tryouts will be held on June 6, 7, 24, and Aug. 4. Registration is now open here.
