Fun At The Core Of Club Development Days

This Sunday, Peter C. Collins Soccer Park will be packed with plenty of smiling U7 and U8 soccer players during the latest Petro Home Services Club Development Day.
While based around learning the beautiful game, fun continues to be at the core of the events.
“If they aren’t having fun, they aren’t coming back, said Brian Wood, POB VP of Boys Intramurals. “ If they are having fun they are focusing more on it and retaining more.
“It’s really unbelievable how it’s a great opportunity for these kids to get together and have a great time. They are all smiling and it really makes it enjoyable for me as a coach.”
The first development day of the fall season was held at Soccer Park on September 29. In addition to this weekend’s event on October 28, there will also be a development day on November 17.
At last month’s event, 38 teams from 17 different LIJSL member clubs participated getting to play three different games with 18 fields running games simultaneously.
“Our kids this age, it’s really only intramurals so other than tournaments this is their only other experience playing other towns and it’s great to do it in a non-pressure, fun-filled environment,” Wood said.
Most importantly, the Club Development Days are to serve as a building block for young players as well as fueling their passion for the beautiful game.
“I hope their take away is that they love soccer and want to keep playing,” Wood added.
