December 06, 2018
The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) held its annual holiday party earlier this month as well as handed out awards. Several members from the LIJSL were recognized this year.
LIJSL President Anthony Maresco was inducted into the Eastern New York Hall of Fame. Maresco began volunteering in 1993 with the Terryville Soccer Club’s intramural program before being named to the club’s executive board as the travel treasurer. He became Terryville Soccer Club President in 2000.
Before taking the role as LIJSL President in 2015, Maresco held various roles with the league, including LIJSL games chairperson and served on the Supervisory, Rules, and Coaches Arbitration committees. He started as a supervisor, then became a coordinator and girls chairperson for the Long Island Cup. Inducted into the LIJSL Hall of Fame in 2010, he was also elected to the league’s Board of Directors, holding the position of treasurer and First Vice President.
Maresco also currently serves on the ENYYSA Board of Directors.
Former LIJSL player John Wolyniec was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. Wolyniec played his youth soccer with Northport/Cow Harbor Soccer Club and currently coaches the New York Red Bulls II, winning a USL Championship in 2016.
During the night, ENYYSA also handed out the Of The Year Awards with two members from LIJSL receiving honors. East Islip Soccer Club’s Jason Buser earned the Girls Recreational Coach of the Year award and Glen Cove Youth Soccer League Vice President James Greenberg was named Volunteer of the Year.
Further adding to awards, LIJSL board member Mike D’Ambrosio, who serves as the Second Vice President for the league, was named as the ENYYSA Personality of the Month for December. D’Ambrosio also serves on the Eastern New York Board of Directors as registrar since 2010. Additionally, he volunteers as chairperson of Eastern New York's Arbitration, Membership, and Supervisory committees and is co-chairperson of TOPSoccer.
